Note: George and Sally Merriam Adams were married on 25 Feb 1819 according to the Vital Records of Westminster (published by Franklin Rice, 1908). According to the "History of Westminster, Massachusetts - 1728-1893" (William Sweetzer Heywood, 1893) George was the son of George and Mary (Woodward) Adams and was born on 30 May 1796. He "came to W. when a lad to res. with his uncle, Abraham Sampson, of whom he learned the blacksmith's trade, succeeding to the business at the popular stand in the Sawin neighborhood. When past middle life he rem. to the village. He was an active citizen, serving as selectman and assessor, as well as in other public capacities. He m. Feb 15, 1819, Sally, dau. of Asa and Lucena (Puffer) Merriam, by whom he had a large family. Both attained advanced age, having lived together more than 64 years., and both were great sufers from cancer during their last days. He d. June 9, 1884, a. 88; she d. Oct. 12, 1883, a. 85." George and family are in the 1850 through 1880 census of Westminster (two of the census records say he was born in New Hampshire and two say he was born in Mass.). He was a blacksmith in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. The 1865 state census indicates he was born at Fitzwilliam, N.H., and that he was a blacksmith.
