Note: Roberta Longmire researched many of the references to the ancestry of George Adams. She reported that George moved from Watertown, Mass., to Westminster, Mass., with his family when he was young. After he married he and his wife moved to Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, and after about 10 years at Fitzwilliam they moved to Ludlow, Vermont. Note that Ludlow is about 60 miles from Fitzwilliam and about 100 miles from Westminster. The "History of Westminster, Massachusetts - 1728-1893" (William Sweetzer Heywood, 1893, 513-516) provides the following account of George and his family: "George, b. Nov. 2 1767; m. Mary, dau. of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Withington) Woodward, Jan 1, 1789, and set. in Fitzwilliam, where she was admitted to the church Sept. 4, 1791, and where several children were b., 1789-98. The parents then removed to Ludlow, Vt., and spent the remainder of their days, having probably other children born to them..." According to Roberta, George was on the tax rolls of Fitzwilliam, N.H., from 1788 to 1797. His brother, Daniel, also lived at Fitzwilliam for a time. George and Mary Woodward were married on 1 Jan 1789 (publishment of intention of marriage) according to the Vital Records of Westminster (published by Franklin Rice, 1908). Note that Westminster became a town in 1770 and by 1800 it had a population of about 1,400. The Ludlow Vital Records, 1768-1873, which list the children of George Adams, are in a book of records begun in 1795 and which provides lists of children of various residents of Ludlow. Children were not listed as they were born, but apparently residents simply provided the town clerk with a list of their children and their birth dates (this means that the children were not necessarily born in Ludlow, which is the case for many of the children of George Adams). Whoever provided the list of birth dates for the children of George Adams also supplied the day of the week that each child was born (few of the other Ludlow families did this, but it does provide a way to check the accuracy of the dates -- indeed the days of the week do coincide with the dates given for each child). There are actually two separate lists of George's children in the Ludlow records book. The first is as follows: "Elizabeth Adams was born 28 September 1789 on Monday; Sarah Adams was born 17th on March on Thursday 1791; Mary Adams was born Saturday 1st Sept 179[missing digit]; Becca Adams was born Saturday 22 March 179[missing digit]; George Adams was born Monday 30th May 1796; Daniel Adams was born Tuesday Sept 26th 1797; Joel Adams Dec 16th 1799 [no day of the week was supplied for this Joel who died young]; Jonas Adams was born Tuesday 24th Febr 1801; Edna Adams was born Saturday June 18th 1803; Lindia Adams was born Saturday 25th of 1805" On a separate page later in this book of records is another list of the children of George Adams which overlaps with the first list and adds to it (it is as if additional children were born since the first list was given to the town clerk so another list was provided - the oldest children were not included in this list): "Jonas Adams son of George Adams born February 24th 1801; Edna Adams daughter of George Adams born June 18th 1803; Linday Adams daughter of George Adams was born May 25th 1805; The twins of George Adams born May 3rd 1806 and died the same day; Joel Adams son of George Adams born June 23rd 1807; Phebe Adams daughter of George Adams was born February 20th 1809; Roxy Adams daughter of George Adams was born May 16th 1810"
