a. Note:   According to Lynn Criddle, descendant of Sophrona's brother, Archibald, their "father was Allan Dougald Black and his father was Dougald Mac Dougald who changed his name when both he and his son, above came here from the highlands of Scotland. That was when the Black was added. Allan's mother (Ann Voran Mac Dougald) was left in Scotland since she was a firm Catholic and was going to turn Mac Dougald over to the English who were drafting for the military. Mac Dougald was a follower of King Charles so he and his son left secretly and came to America about 1774. There is some evidence that Mac Dougald also went by the name "John the Scot" When coming to America they settled in Broome Co., New York area. Allan Dougald Black moved in his 20's a little south of Broome Co., to a town that was called Alfred, also called Baker's Bridge. He married Mary E. Livermore, dau. of Isaac Livermore, a soldier in the Rev. Army. Children of Allan and Mary were: Allen Dougald, Jr., Daniel Russel (also known as Russel D. (R.D.) Black, George, Archibald, David, Jonathan, and one dau....Sophrona. There was another child that died as a young man in Amity, New York. Sophrona Black, only dau. of Allan Dougald and Mary Black wa b. in Broome Co., New York. She married Thomas Graham and they came to Tuscola Co, Michigan and settled on a farm in what is now (1957) the eastern part of Fairgrove Twp. When their ch. were grown, they moved to Maryland and lived there til Thomas passed away then Sophrona returned to Michigan." is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program.
