Thank you for your reply Alfonso. It is much appreciated.
A bit more background to the request.
A daughter of John Rae and Sarah Caird, namely Janet, married an Edward Burnet. These two are the common ancestors of John Burnet and myself. We each have a copy of a letter written by George Burnet, son of Edward, in the very early 1900s. In this he refers to a brother of his grandmother i.e. Sarah Caird, who went on a sailing ship as a Surgeon.
We each had found more on Sarah's family with the help of a Julie Rowe (Kaminsky). This was some time ago. Within the last couple of months I've been seeing if I could find out more about the Surgeon. In doing that I accidentally came across Sarah's brother Adam being arraigned for abuse of his wife Elizabeth.
When John Caird married Janet Cuthbert you know that his father's name was given in the marriage record as 'the deceased Adam Caird of Kirkbean'. I have found no earlier record of an Adam Caird yet. There is a baptism shown in 1731 at Dumfries of a John Caird to an Andrew Caird.
John Caird married Janet Cuthbert in 1754.
If anything more comes to light I will let you know,
My best wishes Neil Beattie Cheshire UK
