BIOGRAPHY: 4331 John Bean 5 (Fam. 4330 above) b. 1804, Franklin Co., Tenn. (The 1850 census of 2-21850, Johnson Co., Ark. shows tht he ws b. in Tenn.) d. 1861 and is bur. in Mt. Vernon Cem., Clarksville, Ark. He prob. d. at Mt. Vernon, ILL., however. He m. Elizabeth Awalt of Franklin Co., Tenn., b. 1798 in N. C., the dau. of Michael Awalt who d. in Franklin Co., Tenn., before 8-24-1835 (See Will of Michael Awalt in the Franklin Co., Wills, 1827-1847) It is not known where or when Elizabeth died. John Bean5 was perhaps the most noted member of his family but a bit difficult to trace because of conflicting family accounts based on legend. From this we have gleaned some facts. He moved as a young man of 21 with his parents in 1825 from Franklin Co., Tenn. to Waltonville, Ill., in the now famous covered wagon trip over the mountains, but by 1829 he was back in Franklin Co., Tenn. for he was m. there to Elizabeth, and they lived there until 1842, then moving to Clarksville, Ark. They were the first Bean family to live here and a great many of the Beans of Johnson Co., Ark. descend from them. John was an out-spoken sympathized for the Union and in 1860 it appears that he returned to Illinois, where he died but his body was returned to Clarksville and the Mt. Vernon Cem. This writer has visited his grave.
