    John was the oldest son of Philip Jennings, Jr. and had only one brother, Philip, and they were endowed with large acreage and slaves and went into the same plantation life on the large tracts of lands acquired by royal grants from King George II of England that had been owned by their families for three generations-See page 46. Jennings-McMillan and Allied Families. John caled "Long John" Jennings to distinguish him from his cousin John Jennings called "Stumpy" was married three times.
    Further, Long John was a believer in large families as is attested by the fact that he was the father of fourteen children. page 48-At his death, Rachel Elizabeth Jennings McMichael, his only surviving daughter by his second wife, inherited the old homestead. She later sold to Samuel Dibble and then a descendant of John Jennings, Mr. Fisher Cleckley owned the acreage and enclosed that part that was the family burial with a block wall.
    Jane Cannon and John Jennings had no children together. She is buried with him and the other two wives at old family burial ground near old homestead in Orangeburg, SC.

    "Sacred to the memory of John Jennings who died 1st March 1859 aged 82 years and 1 month. Alas, how soon the flowery hopes of Youth have all withered. How soon the riper joys of manhood have passed."
