John Spidel Dies From Heart Attack
Recently Underwent Operation at Dayton Hospital
John W. Spidel, 80, one of Darke County's most extensive land owners and an active figure in agricultural affairs for more than a half-century, died suddenly at eight p.m. Thursday at the home of a sister, Mrs. Dale Warrick, 202 East Fourth Street, Greenville, from the effects of a heart attack.
Mr. Spidel was removed to the sister's home, Wednesday from Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, where on March 8 he underwent an eye operation. He suffered the fatal heart attack late Wednesday night.
His real estate holdings included several farms throughout the county as well as a number of Greenville properties and in late years his business activaties were mainly devoted to the management of those properties. However, at one time he had been interested in an implement store and livery business operated in Greenville by a brother, the late Dan Spidel.
Born on a farm near Painter Creek in Franklin township, he had spent his entire life in Darke County. His parents were the late John and Margaret Marker Spidel.
Besides the one sister, he leaves a brother, Jake Spidel, Greenville, and a number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at two p.m. Monday at the Greenville Presbyterian church with the Rev. John Harrington and the Rev. C.C. Wessel officiating. Interment will be at Gettysburg.
Friends may call at the Warrick residence after twelve o'clock noon Saturday.
