SPIDEL and TRACY - In the Oakland church, Darke Co., Ohio, Sept. 10, 1897, John Spidel, aged 64 years and 4 months, and Willie Tracy, his nephew, aged about 15 years. They were starting home from Gettysburg (OH), where they had been hauling grain. Just as they were in the act of crossing the Pan Handle R. R., they were run over by the fast mail train, which killed both of them instantly. In 1858 Mr. Spidel was married to Margaret Marker who, for many years past, has been a member of the Brethren church. Seven children blessed this union, two of them having preceded him. The younger son, David, died July 2, 1888, from injuries received by his team running away from an approaching train, two weeks before. Very singularly, Mr. Spidel's father, bearing the same name as his younger son, was instantly killed by a runaway thirty-four years ago. Thus representatives of three generations, - son, father and grandfather, - have all been taken away in a similar manner, so unexpectedly and so sudden. Willie Tracy was the youngest son of George W. and Barbara Tracy, the latter a daughter of Henry Kuns, of Cerrogordo, Ill. His mother died while he was yet an infant. For several years he had been living with his Uncle John Spidel. He leaves a father and two brothers. Two funerals, - two hearses each carrying a member of the same family, at the same time, - rendered the occasion a sad one. Funeral services were conducted by brethren Stutsman, Kreider, and Christian at the Presbyterian church in Gettysburg. Levi Minnick.
