In 1909, he took the university entrance examination. Took the examination from Kristiania Technical School to be a chemical engineer in 1905.
At Skeins Pulpmill, he spent a year as an apprentice and then was the chemist.
In 1910-1912, he studied at Darmstadt University in Giessen, Eberswalde, the subjects of pulp and paper chemistry.
He took his PHD in 1912 at Giessen.
In 1912-1916, he was the chemist with Enso Sulfitefabric in Finnland. He moved in 1919 to Canada where he was the chemist for Riordon Pulp Corporation and Ltds. Fabric in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada. He belonged to the Canadian International Paper Company until 1932 whe he moved back to Norway. He was employed afterwards as a consultant for the pulp industry in Norway & Sweden.
