  • Note:
William's History states that this William was the Immigrant but this does not seem to be so.

Other problems with this source leave much to be desired. Information from it must be confirmed elsewhere, especially regarding the line of William Jr through his 2nd wife Jacoba Livers. 5
  • Burial: AFT 22 APR 1775 Elder Family Cemetery, 1/2 mile s. of St. Mary's College, Frederick, MD
  • Note: William's History cites legible birth and death dates on grave stone, with 1/2 mile s. of St. Mary's College. 5 2
  • Will: 18 APR 1773 written 6
  • Residence: 1734 "Pleasant Level"
  • Note: He located at the foot of Blue Ridge in 1734, then the abode of numerous Indians and the haunt of wild beasts. He called his place "Pleasant Level." Here he built a house, reserving one room for religious services which he called a chapel. This room was equal in size to all the rest of his house. He was there joined by his family and a few friends from St. Mary’s County. Mr. Elder was a devout Catholic and his chapel was the home for all weary travelers, and a delightful resort for all professing his faith. Hospitality was religiously practiced by this good family and their descendants. The little congregation was taken care of by priests from St. Mary’s, and later from Conewago and Frederick, while sometimes Father Mathew Ryan, from Path Valley, Pa., visited them. 5
