  • Note:
    Someone interviewed David H. Burkholder for the 1926 reunion. On page 19, he notes that David and his wife, Margaret (Seilhamer) were retired and living in Chambersburg. At the time David was blind and an invalid, having lost his arm in an accident. The interviewer notes that they were of the Reformed faith, although they were later buried at Stoufferstown Cemetery in Chambersburg which is a Mennonite cemetery. Was he part of the Mennonite congregation or was he buried there for geographical reasons? Report of the First Burkholder Reunion, Sept. 3, 1926, p. 19.

    The 1880 Census listed David Burkholder, 26; Maggie Burkholder, 24; Susan Burkholder, 3; Katie Burkholder, 1 (1880 Pennsylvania Census, Franklin County, Guilford Township, p. 373B).

    The 1900 Census listed David Burkholder, b. Apr. 1854, married 24 years, farmer; Margaret Burkholder, b. Nov. 1855, 21 years, born in Illinois, 9 children birthed/ 9 children living; Katie E. Burkholder, b. Nov. 1898, 21 years; Paul Burkholder, b. Mar. 1886, 14 years; John D. Burkholder, b. Jun, 1888, 11 years; Ella E. Burkholder, b. May 1891, 9 years; Maurice Burkolder, b. Feb. 1893, 7 years; Margaret Burkholder, b. Oct. 1896, 3 years; Mary Burkholder, b. Jul. 1899, 10 month. (1900 Pennsylvania Census, Franklin County, Guilford Township, p. 228A: 205/207).

    The 1910 Census listed David H. Burkholder, 56, farmer, married 34 years; Margaret Burkholder, 54, born in Illinois, 10 children birthed/ 9 children living; Paul Burkholder 24, laborer; John Burkholder, 22, laborer; Ella Burkholder, 21, servant in home; Morris Burkholder, 19, laborer; Margaret Burkholder, 16, servant in home; Mary Burkholder, 12 (1910 Pennsylvania Census, Franklin County, Guilford Township, p. 175B: 54/60).

    The 1920 Census listed David Burkholder, 66, farmer; Margarete Burkholder, 65, born in Illinois; Paul Burkholder 34, farm hand; John D. Burkholder, 32, farm hand; Maurice Burkholder 26, farm hand; Margarete Burkholder, 23; Mary Burkholder, 20 (1920 Pennsylvania C ensus, Franklin County, Guilford Township, p. 71A: 156/169.) Charles W. Garber, 23, born in Maryland, machinist; Annie Garber, 22 (1920 Pennsylvania Census, Franklin County, Guilford Township, p. 71A: 157/169).
