      Jonah and Eliza were married 11 miles from Dadeville, AL, at Andrew C hapel in Eliza's home at 4:00 p.m.

      Eliza's cousin, John Tucker, willed Jonah & Eliza a farm (Old Cousi n W illiam Tucker's homestead) located 2 miles northwest of Opalika, Le e C o. AL, near Mt. Jefferson Church around 1895. They lived with Cousi n J ohn Tucker for 3 years. He was about 82 years old and died 1905/6.

      Jonah Monroe came to Mesquite, TX in 1879. He was 21 years old. He l ived in Mesquite for one year and went back to Alabama. Jonah Monro e a nd Eliza left Opalika, AL with five of their children and arrived i n E ros, LA, Feb 1905. Cola Pitts Meadows died in AL. Grady Hearne Me adows b orn while family living in Eros, LA.

      The family left Eros and arrived in Mt. Calm, TX in 1906 . Jonah Mo nr oe rented a large farm from a man named Mr. Rush, located 2 miles we s t of Mt. Calm. George and Minnie Whatley, Eliza's sister, and their f a mily had left Alabama and were living on a farm near Mt. Calm also . Jo nah and Eliza moved from the Rush farm in the fall of 1913 to a f arm k nown as the Mollie Roberts place. The Roberts place was in the s ame co mmunity as the Rush farm and closer to the country school. It w as a on e room schoolhouse known as Midway and it was 2 miles from the home. Wh ile living in Mt Calm a neighbor, Bill Elliot, read about Ark ansas and a ll of the families decided to go there. Jonah moved from th e Mollie Ro berts farm, Sept 1917. The families travelled in covered w agons, shipp ed mules by freight, and arrived in Mena, Polk Co. AR, Oc t 15, 1917. J onah couldn't find a suitable farm to rent so they left Mena by train a fter 2 weeks and arrived in Pittsburg, TX, Nov 10, 1917 . The family mo ved to a farm known as the A. M. Reardon place, Nov 17 , 1917. This far m home was 6 miles northwest of Pittsburg, TX. Georg e and Minnie Whatl ey and family had already moved to Pittsburg from M t, Calm. Minnie Tuc ker Whatley and Eliza Tucker Meadows were the onl y ones in their famil y to move to Texas from Alabama.

      In the fall of 1920, the Meadows family moved to a small farm close t o t he Pittsburg High School. This farm was known as the Kesterson Pla ce. J onah went to work as a night watchman at a Cotton Seed Mill.
