Captain Obed was in the Revolutionary War from Franklin, Mass. He marched twice to Rhode Island on an alarm, July 28-Aug 7, 1780 & Mar 3-17, 1781; then served in the army until his discharge Nov 29, 1781. His records describe him as 5'3", dark complexion. Obed was a captain in the Army and he retained that title until his death.

"METCALF, OBED (also given Obadiah), Franklin. Private, Capt. John Metcalf's co., 4th Suffolk co. regt. commanded by Maj. Seth Bullard; marched July 28, 1780; discharged Aug. 7, 1780; service, 13 days; company marched to Rhode Island on an alarm; also, Capt Amos Ellis's co; entered service March 3, 1781; discharged march 17, 1781; service, 15 days at Rhode Island; company detached from 4th Suffolk Co regt; roll endorsed "Col Dean Reg't"; also, descriptive list of men raised agreeable to resolve of June 30, 1781; age, 17 years; stature, 5 ft 3 in; complexion, dark; residence, Franklin; said Metcalf detached from Lieut. POND's co. July 30, 1781, to serve for the term of 3 months; also, Private, Capt. John Lincoln's co, Col. Joseph Webb's regt; marched to camp aug 20, 1781; discharged Nov 29, 1781; service, 3 mos 22 days, travel (240 miles) included; regiment raised for 3 months."
He probably moved to New Hampshire 1790-92.
Obed and Abigail lived in Croydon township (estab. 1763) of Cheshire County, NH (estab. 1769).
The census shows them there in 1790, 1800, 1810 & 1820. In 1827 that part of Cheshire County became Sullivan County, and in 1830 they were listed in Croydon township of Sullivan County.

From the Croydon (NH) Centennial book (pub 1867, p 123-24):
"Capt. Obed Metcalf [son of Samuel] was active in town and church affairs, was father of Stephen, a prominent farmer at Haverhill, NH, and grandfather of Henry H., a lawyer, and Carlos G., physician, sons of Joseph."

1836 - Dec 27 - Obed Metcalf, of fever, 73 yrs old.
1852 - July 30 - Abigail, wid of Obed Metcalf, of old age, 89 years old.
After Obed died in 1836 (73 years old) Abigail lived with their son Moses until her death in 1852 (89 years old). They were both buried in the Pinacle cemetery in Croydon township, Sullivan County, NH.
[There were 9 Metcalfs buried in Pinnacle Cemetery - an old inactive cemetery;
also there were 9 Metcalfs buried in Four Corners Cemetery in Croydon - an active cemetery.]
Granddaughter Susan's obit says she was born in 1823 in Claremont, NH. [see list of Claremont cemeteries at: http://www.claremontnh.com/cemetery.htm ]
Obed's 3rd cousin, Thomas Metcalf, married Deborah Revere, sister of Paul Revere.
Obed and Thomas were both great-grandsons of Michael Metcalf, Jr.:

After Abigail's death the family scattered some:
1. Polly and family moved to California in the 1850s.
2. Moses and family moved to Minnesota about 1855-56
3. Sally stayed in Croydon, Sullivan Co, NH
4. Joseph Park stayed in NH and died in Sullivan, Co.
5. Don't know about Hannah. There was a Parker Eastman in 1850 in IL and in IN
6. Stephen died in Grafton Co, NH
7. Lois stayed in NH
8. Calvin died very young in NH
