Name: George Newell BATY
Birth: ABT 1845 in Ark
Death: 1 MAR 1862 in Thomasville, Oregon Co, Mo.
Change Date: 23 JUL 2014
Since he was born in Ark. and the rest of William S. Baty's children were born in Missouri, and since W.S. already had a son named George, it's possible that this is not the son of W.S. Baty, or that his name is not George.
During the Civil War he and his wife Sarah were living with her aunt Peggy Jolliff near Jolliff Spring. The Jay Hawkers came to his home, took all their food and then took him to Thomasville where they hung him from a big red oak tree. [It was a very dangerous time for any man to be found at home--by either side.]
[Another time, Billie Perkins, who was married to Della Jolliff, was hung from the same tree, but someone cut him down before he died.]

I don't have another Newell Baty in my database, however there is a story on his father?s page that Newell went to Indian Territory. If this happened after the Civil War, then he either wasn?t killed, or there was another Newell Baty.
