Albert was my grandfather.
See picture at:
He lived all his life in Missouri, but once when he was a young man he went to visit his dad's cousin, Dave Willard in Kansas. He served in the army during WWI in France. And later, he took his aged mother to visit her Spurlock relatives in Texas.
He was 10 years old when his grandpa Spurlock died in Arkansas. He was 18 when his grandpa Willard died at his home, near Albert's parents home.
He was in France in WWI. He served Nov 2, 1918 to Mar. 13, 1919 in France. Since Armistice Day was Nov 18, 1918, he arrived after the fighting was over and wasn?t there very long.
After coming home he married his sweetheart, Maymie Lindesmith, in Oct. 1919.
Douglas County (Mo) Herald - "Richville":
"The newlywed Maymie Lindesmith and Albert Willard are making their home at Nathaniel Lowe's."
1920 MO census: Douglas Co, Richland, Brush Creek twp, p 53, family #139:
Willard, Albert A. (head) - 25, b MO
Willard, Mamie J. (wife) - 18, b TX
Low, George N. (uncle) - 73, b IN
Low, Mary A. (aunt) - 71, b MO
Willard, Arthur J.D. (brother) - 23, b MO
Willard, Bessie M. (sister-in-law) - 20, b MO
Also living in Brush Creek twp, Douglas County were some of Maymie's relatives:
Joseph Hiram Lindesmith
Albert sang bass in a Gospel quartet and traveled around singing in churches, probably in southern Missouri, maybe northern Arkansas in the 1920's and/or 1930's.
They lived in Buffalo until 1929 at 704 N. Locust. (The County Recorder?s office gave us ?626?, but when we went to look at the property, the house was ?704?). They sold this house in 1929 and bought a farm on Greasy Creek (on the Old Springfield Road, just south of the creek, about 3 miles south of Buffalo.)
In March 1936, his only sister, Gertrude Willard Spann died in Oklahoma.
Maymie died in Feb, 1938 in Topeka, KS.
Albert married 2nd in 1940 to Mrs. Myrtle (Green) Fair.
In 1947 he moved to Willow Springs, Mo where he became the city tax collector.
In 1964, Albert filled out a form about himself:
