    Curtis W. Johnson, 74, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Lakewood Health System in Staples from complications of Parkinson?s disease.

    Funeral services were held on Friday, February 8 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Casket bearers included Doub Torblaa, Bruce Mathson, Chad Torstveit, Herb Torstveit, David Lee and Robby Finstad. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemtery, Thief River Falls.

    Curtis Werner Johnson was born November 20, 1933, in Thief River Falls, the son of Anton and Clara (Gunstad) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, by Rev. Fjelstul. He attended Cheerville school, rural Thief River Falls.

    On June 1, 1968, Curtis was united in marriage to Marlene Hanson at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls by Rev. Rueben Wangberg. The couple farmed and raised dairy and beef cattle on the land his grandfather homesteaded in 18889. Curtis was a certified seed producer for the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association. He raised small grains, sunflowers, potatoes, and other speciality crops.

    Curtis was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church, wehre he served on the church council. He was also a member of the Milk Producers Association, served on the St. Hilaire Elevator Board, Pennington County Crop Improvement Association (President for several years), Board Member of Consumers Coop Oil Association, and member of the Eagles. He was an avid curler with the TRF Curling Club, enjoyed playing hockey, and enjoyed flying. Curtis was a devoted supporter of his children?s various activities. He was interested in many different things - he enjoyed experimenting with agricultural practices, watching any sporting events, dancing to old-time music, and he always kept up on current events.

    He had lived the last four years at Staples Care Center near his oldest daughter.

    Survivors include two daughters, Susanne (Jody) Hinrichs of Brainerd and Jana Johnson of Eden Prairie; a son, Paul (Heather) Johnson of Excelsior; six grandchildren; and sister Shirley Johnson of Thief River Falls.

    Preceding him in death were his wife, Marlene, in 2003 and parents.
