From Pennington County History (1976) submitted by Julia (Molmquist) Finstad: ?One of the last pioneers of Pennington County was Martin Finstad, son of Knute and Liv Finstad. In 1927 he bought 80 acres of undeveloped land in Rocksbury town. In the spring of 1928 he married Julia Molmquist. That summer they bought one of the oldest frame houses in Pennington County, moved it onto the 80 acres (later they remodeled it). They also built a barn out of old buildings form a neighboring farm. They drilled a well and put up fences and started a herd of Holstein cattle. They raised chickens and turkeys.

That same year they organized the Rocksbury 4-H club, and were leaders for 11 years. Later he bought 160 acres of woodland and cut logs and sawed lumber and shingles for a larger barn, which he built in 1940. That barn is in use at the present time. Also in the spring of 1940 rural electricity came which was a great help. By that time, they had increased the farm to 480 acres. Martin had a threshing machine and threshed for 17 falls for the neighbors.

In 1968 Martin and Julia retired and moved to Thief River Falls, selling the farm to their daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Joe Armstrong, who live there at the present time. They have two other daughters: Janice (Mrs. Don Brieland) who is a home economics teacher in Franklin Junior High School, in Thief River falls, MN, and Bonnie (Mrs. Leonard Johnson) who lives in Boulder, Colorado and is a teacher in Longmont School District. Martin passed away in spring 1972.?
