    Obituary in Thief River Falls Times, 10 May 2006: Lillian Ranum, 86, died on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Casket bearers include Myles Alberg, Ronald Alberg, David Alberg, Michelle Ranum, Bradley Ranum, Elizabeth Ranum, Roger Nelson. Interment will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

    Lillian Rosella Alberg was born October 21, 1919 in River Falls Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Carl Eric Anton and Louise Randine (Finstad) Alberg. She was baptized at St. Pauli Lutheran Church and confirmed at the church on July 1933. She grew up and attended school in Hazel, from 1924 - 1933 and graduated high school in St. Hilaire in 1937. She as a waitress for about two years.

    On July 22, 1939, Lillian was united in mariage to Harry Arthur Ranum at her parent?s home. The couple spent one year in Colorado and Kansas, where Harry worked on construction of air bases. Most of their married life was spent in Thief River Falls. Harry died January 1, 1962, while Lillian was in nurses training.

    In 1962, Lillian graduated from AVTI Nursing and also took several classes at Northland College. She worked at Northwestern Hospital from 1962 - 1980 and worked as an assistant to the school nurse from 1963-1985. Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and active in its activities. She held membership in the Leisure Fellowship, was an officer in the Ladies Aid, Circles, ZLCW and taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Wednesday school. Lillian was the memorial chairperson for the American Cancer Society for many years. She liked to quilt, knit and walk.

    Survivors include two children, James (Jane) of Minneapolis and Judith Wick of st. Paul; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters: Ruby (Glenn) Engelstad of Everett, Wash., Helen ?Peggy? Rolland of Everett, Wash., and Connie (James) Kolden of Shoreview; sister-in-law: Theresa Alberg of Thief Rvier Falls; and two brothers-in-law, Eddie Sterle of Chisholm and Richard Dinsmore of Minneapolis.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; son, Bruce; son-in-law, Darrell Wick; parents; sisters: Gladys Nelson, Cleo Sterle and Mae Dinsmore; and brother: Stanley Alberg.
