HUGH DE PLESCY, 4th but eldest surviving son and heir by 1st wife (d), aged 25 and more in 1292, did homage and had order for livery of his inheritance 11 August 1292. He was summoned for service in Scotland, and served there throughout the campaign which ended with Balliol's surrender of the crown. He was summoned to Parliament from 26 January 1296/7 to 6 February 1298/9, by writs directed to Hugo de Plessetis, whereby he is considered to have become LORD PLESCY. He was summoned for service overseas, the proposed expedition to Flanders, 1297, which gave way before Wallace's rebellion in Scotland, Hugh being summoned for service there; also in 1300; and on 12 Mar. 1300/1 he was summoned again to muster at Berwick 24 June.
In or before 1294 he married Margaret (----) (a). He died shortly before 23 August 1301. His widow survived till some time before 2 November 1311. [Complete Peerage X:549-50, transcribed by Dave Utzinger]
(d) The 1st son John, who had an order, Sep 1275, for livery of his pourparty of the estate of Alice Basset, d. 1279; his next brother and heir, Thomas, who had an order for livery 1279, d. 1283; his brother and heir Philip was probably living in 1286.
(a) Who, as his widow, had an order, Feb 1301/2, for her dower. She was possibly dau. of Robert de Grey, of Rotherfield, Oxon, by Joan, dau. of Thomas de Valoines; for Robert's mother Isabel sent a nurse to Kildington at the time of the birth of Margaret's son.
