Richard Hodgson, db=ancestorsearch, indicated that www.stirnet.com was the source for Hugh & Matilda de Erdington, but also had the following notes:
BEB1841 and Visitation disagree as to the first 2 or 3 generations of this family. Visitation starts with John Holt (a temp Edward I who r. 1272-1307) whose son Simon (a temp Edward III) married Albreda, dau of George Castell(o) and was father of John and Walter. BEB1841 shows as follows ...
HOLTE, OF ASTON. The first of this family traceable is Sir Hugh Holte, who m. Matilda, daughter of Sir Henry de Erdington, Lord of Erdington.
(A genealogical history of the Holt family in the United States: more ...? Daniel Steele Durrie. 1864.)
NOTE: I am not sure of the Yardley area being one of the early homes of the Holt family, but it seems likely. British History does not explain how the Holt family obtained the Greethurst Manor in Yardley in the 14th century. They could have been in the area for years. Yardley was very close to Birmingham (actually incorporated into it in 1912), and Birmingham was the seat of many of the wives of the Holt family.
