THOMAS (DE POYNINGS), LORD POYNINGS, son and heir, was born at Slaugham, Sussex, and baptised there, 19 April 1349. His wardship was granted, 17 May 1369, to John of Gaunt, with whom he was going in March 1372/3 on the King's proposed expedition to Gascony. He was on the commission of the peace for Sussex in 1375.
He married, before 5 June 1372, Blanche, daughter of John (DE MOWBRAY), LORD MOWBRAY (by Joan, youngest daughter of Henry, EARL OF LANCASTER], and widow of Sir Robert BERTRAM, of Bothal (e). He died s.p., shortly before 25 June 1375. His widow married, 4thly, between 28 June 1377 and 21 March 1377/8, Sir John DE WORTH, steward of the lands of Joan, Princess of Wales, and one of her executors. He died in 1391. In November 1394 she was wife of Sir John WILTSHIRE, who was living in August 1405. She died 21 July 1409. [Complete Peerage X:661-2, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
(e) Blanche had been m. as a child, about 1349, to John de Segrave, son and heir apparent of John, Lord Segrave, who d. as a young boy. In 1356-7 she was the 2nd wife of Sir Robert Bertram, baron of Bothal, Northumberland, who d. Nov 1363. John de Mowbray in June 1365 confirmed grants of annuities by his sister Blanche, baroness of Bothale.
