    HENRY (BOURCHIER), LORD BOURCHIFR, as also Count of Eu in Normandy, cousin and heir, being son and heir of Sir William BOURCHIER COUNT OF EU. (so created 10 June 1419), by Anne, widow of Edmund, EARL OF STAFFORD, daughter and heir of Thomas, DUKE OF GLOUCESTER (youngest son of Edward III), which Sir William was son and heir of another Sir William Bourchier, the younger son of Robert, 1st LORD BOURCHIER. On 28 May 1420, when scarcely 16, he succeeded his father in his Norman Countship, and about 13 years afterwards succeeded his cousin in the English estates, after which he was summoned to Parliament from 5 July 1435 to 13 January 1444/5 by writs variously directed, Henrico Bougchier Ch'lr, Henrico Bourghchier de Bourghchier or Henrico Bourgchier Comiti de Ewe. Shortly after this last writ he was created, by patent, VISCOUNT BOURCHIER of Tickhill, co. York), and was summoned to Parliament as such from 14 December 1446 to 23 May 1461. On 30 June 1461 he was created Earl of Essex. Steward of the Household 1463-71; Chief Steward of the Duchy of Lancaster [Southern parts] 1471 till his death; Keeper of the King's Great Seal June to July 1473; master of the King's Hounds 8 July 1748.

    He married, before 25 April 1426 [Papal mandate, 5 June 1426], isabel, widow of Sir Thomas Gray, daughter of Richard, Earl of Cambridge, by Anne, daughter and in her issue heir of Roger [De Mortimer], Earl of march. He died 4 April 1483, aged about 79. His widow died 2 October 1484. Both were buried in the Abbey of Beeleigh by Maldon, and thence removed to Little Easton, Essex.
