    TESSON, TAISSON.

La Roche-Tesson: Manche, arr. Saint-Lo, cant. Percy, comm. La Colombe. [NOTE: I don't find La Roche-Tesson on today's maps, however Loyd indicated on his map that it was very near Montbrai in Manche.]

In 1172 Jordan Tesson owed the service of ten knights for the honour of Thury (Harcourt) in the Bessin, having thirty and a half knights' fees there, and the service of five knights for the honour of St-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, where he had fifteen fees. At the same time he held of the abbot of Le Mont-St-Michel the fee of La Columbe, in which parish La Roche-Tesson is situate. He died in 1178, and was succeeded by his son Ralf, who held North Wheatley, co. Nottingham, and land in Kent. These were lost in 1204 when Ralf adhered to Philip Augustus. He died shortly afterwards, leaving daughters and coheirs....

    FOLIE.

La Folie: Calvados, arr. Bayeux, cant. Isigny.

In 1166 Beatrix, late the wife of Roger de la Folie, held one knight's fee and Richard de la Folie, two, all of the old feoffment, of Adam de Port of Mapledurwell. Enguerrand de Port was one of the jurors on the Bayeux Inquest of 1133; when dying he granted the churches of St-Manvieu and La Folie to the church of Bayeux, a grant afterwards confirmed not later than 1150 by Jordan Tesson who had succeeded to his lands by marriage with his daughter and heir. In 1166 Adam de Sancto Manevo was holding one fee of Port of Basing. Enguerrand was clearly a collateral relation of the Ports of Basing and Mapledurwell, and this shows these under-tenants of the latter to have come from La Folie.

[The Origins of Some Anglo Norman Families, Lewis Loyd, p. 43]

NOTE: The last entry above (Folie) indicates that Jordan m. the daughter of Enguerrand, however he apparently m. the granddaughter of Enguerrand de Port.
