    6. Sir John de Coggeshall, Lord of Coggeshall (which he held of the Abbots of Westminster and of Coggeshall), who was born c. 1302, and was knighted by Edward the Black Prince in 1337. "He was a considerable man in his time," being High Sheriff of Essex and Hertfordshire 1336-49 and 1353-56. He married Margaret, daughter and heiress of Humphrey de Stanton, from whom she received the manor of Alesford. Under a writ of diem clausit extremum the Inquest Post Mortem (similar to our probate inventory), 26 June 35 Edward II, 1361, showed that Sir John held the manors of Sutton, Beneflete, Codham, Coggeshall, Samhill, Hokewell, Ailsford, Fratyng and Thoriton, Pagesham, and Roghir, in addition to lands in the towns of Bokkyngg (Bocking) and Feryngg (Feering), co. Essex, all of which went to his eldest son [Henry]

    1. John Cogeshall of Hartfordshire lived in the tyme of E. 1, he had lands in Rellen Hall or Rewenhal in the county of Essex

    2. Sir John Cogeshall 2 son of John 23 E1.

    3. John Cogeshall held lands in píva Benfleet of the honor of Rawley in Essex 14 E.2

    4. Sir John Cogeshall Knt. Of Essex 12 E. 3 = Mabell sister & heire to Anfrus de Staunton and Mary his wife 16 E. 3

    5. Henery Cogshall 49 E. 3 = Joanne his wife

    6. William sonne & heire 49 E. 3

    Note: This John is #4 above and 12 Edward III is 1338/9, 16 Edward III is 1342/3 (the date when Mabell/Margaret's brother Anfrus died without issue and she became heir?).
