    RiCHARD LE WALEYS, son and heir [of Stephen by Alice], was summoned from the West Riding to meet the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer at York, January 1299/1300, for service against the Scots, 1300-22, to appear before the King at York, 15 February, and to meet him at Stamford Bridge, 24 June 1312. He had a protection, going to Scotland, 10 September 1307; was among the followers of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, who were pardoned, 16 October 1313, for their opposition to the King and the death of Piers Gavaston; and was a Commissioner of array in Yorks, 1314-22. Though summoned to the Parliament that met at Westminster, 20 January 1314/5, he was excused attendance therein, 4 January, because his service was required in the Scottish Marches. He was again summoned to Parliament on 1 May 1321, by writ directed Ricardo Waleys, whereby he is held to have become LORD WALEYS. Though ordered, 12 November 1321, not to attend the meeting of "Good Peers" called by the Earl of Lancaster at Doncaster, and summoned, 14 February 1321/2, to join the King's forces at Coventry, he was captured fighting for the Earl at Boroughbridge, 16-17 March following. To regain his lands and freedom he fined for 2000 marks and 100s. per annum, 11 July 1322, and he was pardoned, 20 November 1323/4. He was summoned to a Great Council at Westminster, 9 May 1324, and for service in Guienne, 7 January 1324/5; and in the autumn of 1328 he aided Edward III against rebels.

    He married, without royal licence, between 2 December 1304 and 8 February 1305/06, Eleanor, widow of Robert DE BRUS, jure uxoris EARL OF CARRICK [SCT] (father of ROBERT I, KING OF SCOTLAND). She died between 13 April and 8 September 1331. He was living, 3 November 1331, and he is probably the man appointed a Commissioner of oyer and terminer in Yorks, 24 May and 12 December 1336.
