  • Note:
ROBERT who is described as "miles," was living about the year 1060, and appears to have possessed signorial rights in the neighbourhood of Ivry (b). He married Aubrée (c), probably daughter of Hugh, BISHOP OF BAYEUX, son of Ralf of Ivry, COUNT OF BAYEUX (d). The date of his death is unknown. [Complete Peerage VIII:208, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

    (b) Ivry-la-Bataille is situated on the river Eure in the arrondissement of Evreux, and was one of the Norman border fortresses.

    (c) The castle of Ivry was built by Aubree, wife of Ralph of Ivry, Count of Bayeux. It was afterwards in the possession of her son Hugh, Bishop of Bayeux, from whom it was taken by Robert I, Duke of Normandy, after standing a siege, and thereafter remained in the possession of the Dukes or of castellans appointed by them until 1087. The abbey of Ivry was founded in 1071 by Roger of Ivry, butler to William the Conqueror, but no evidence has been discovered which throws any light on the nature of Roger's connection with Ivry or his relationship, if any, to the family which forms the subject of this article.

    (d) In which case she m., 2ndly, Albert de Cravent. Orderic relates that in 1080 a youth, Ralf, son of Albert de Cravent and Aubree, daughter of Hugh, Bishop of Bayeux, having robbed a monk on the highway, took refuge at Breval. At that time this place undoubtedly belonged to the family of Ivry and the name of Aubree suggests that the daughter of the Bishop had previously been married to Robert, a fact which would explain the origin of the signorial rights of the family in Ivry. On the other hand, the charter quoted in note "c" above suggests that her son by her presumed first husband, Robert, married in his father's lifetime, which is against the probability of a son being born of a second marriage. This however, is not impossible, and, moreover, the subscription of Hildeburge may have been added later.

Note: Breval is just accross the border from Normandy, in Yvelines (a department of Ile-de-France), but very neary to Ivry and Evreux. Breval may have been under the control/influence of Normandy at the time. The assumption is that the connection to Ivry came through Aubree.

Note: CP does not indicate Robert's parents, but CP does indicate that Eudes/Eudon had a son Robert, who seems likely to be the same person.
