  • ID: I26747
  • Name: Joan WALROND
  • Sex: F
  • Birth: ABT 1421 in Bradfield, Tiverton, Devon, England
  • Note:
Searching the British Public Records Office (A2A online), I have found the following references to the Walronds for the period 1000-1500. I have included below the A2A reference number, the date of the document, and a brief description of the contents, in particular the people referred to in the document. Note that the PRO translates the given names to modern form (ie. Ricardus & Wilhelmus to Richard & William respectively), leaves the surnames pretty much as written, and tries to associate the place names with the current town, hamlet, or parish.

I found no references in A2A to the earlier ancestors such as Richard Walrond nor any references to the name "Bradfelle". This ancestry follows Burke's Landed Gentry (1847). See notes under Mary (Maria) Walrond, b. 1338, for Ken Ozanne's pedigree taken from that source.

I have placed a blank line where I think a new generation of Walrond is first mentioned, although the first entries dated only by "Hen. III", are hard to date (Henry was king for a very long time); the only thing that can be said about John & William, who had agreements during this period is that they were born by 1251 (of age by 1272), and possibly they were born over sixty years earlier. I placed the John mentioned during "Hen III" before William only because it came first in the records.

1926 B/W/ET/14/13.1289 William son of John Walrond and Joan, John Samuel’s daughter (Lease for life from John Samuel) (Because of the absence of a comma between John Walrond & Joan, I read this as Joan is William's mother & wife of John Walrond, or it is possible that Joan is William's wife and part of the agreement)

1926 B/W/ET/13/2...1308 John Walrond and wife Joan (Grant from John de Stouorde and Hawise his wife) (could this be "Joan Stofford" with her father (John de Stofforde) and mother?)
