  • Note:
He [Robert de Willoughby] married, 2ndly, before 9 January 1448/9, Maud, 1st daughter of Sir Richard STANHOPE, of Rampton, Notts, by his 2nd wife, Maud, sister of (whose issue was coheir to) Ralph (DE CROMWELL), 3rd LORD CROMWELL, daughter of Ralph, 2nd LORD CROMWELL. He died s.p.m. 25 July 1452, aged about 67, and was buried at Mettingham, Suffolk, when the Norman titles of COUNT OF VEND‘ME and OF BEAUMONT became extinct. His widow married, (licence 1 May) August 1453, at Tattershall, Lincs, Sir Thomas NEVILLE, 2nd son of Richard (NEVILLE), EARL OF SALISBURY, who was slain at Wakefield, 30 December 1460, fighting on the Yorkist side. She married, 3rdly, before 20 March 1462/3, Sir Gervase CLIFTON, sometime Treasurer of Calais, who was beheaded, 6 May 1471, after the battle of Tewkesbury. She died s.p. 30 August 1497, and was buried with her maternal ancestors in the Collegiate Church at Tattershall. M.I. [Complete Peerage XII/2:663-6, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Note: Apparently Maud Stanhope is known as Matilda Cromwell in the Herald's Visitation of Notts 1662-4, p. 17. This is probably based on the fact that she was coheir of Ralph Cromwell, her maternal uncle.
