Name: Thomas GATES , Esq
Birth: ABT 1325 in Thursteubie, Essex, England

the family appears to have originated with Thomas Gates, Esq. of Higheaster and Thurstubie, Essex, England in A.D.1327
In the county of Essex, particularly, are many records of the bisitations (or census) of the Gates family. A Sir Geoffrey Gates was remembered in the will of King Henry VIII, having received great honors during the reign of that sovereign. Later he became "Master of the Horse" to King Edward VI, Chancellor of the Duchy of Langaster, and of the Privy Council.
Another Sir Geoffrey was a Knight Bannerette in Essex at the time of King Henry VI, about 1461, and later Captain of the Isle of Wight.
