    Laurence de Hastinges, 3rd Lord (Baron) Hasting(e)s and recognised as Earl of Pembroke 13 Feb 1339 by virtue of his descent from Isabel, sister of Aymer de Valence, 1st and last Earl of Pembroke of that family [his father was styled Earl of Pembroke]; fought naval battle of Sluys against French 1340 and present Siege of Tournai which followed, also Siege of Calais 1346; married just after 29 May 1328 Agnes de Mortimer (married 2nd John de Hakelut and died 25 July 1368), daughter of 1st Earl of March, and died 29 or 30 Aug 1348.     Earldom of Pembroke: On Aymer's [Aymer de Valence, son of William de Valence, both de jure Earls of Pembroke] death in 1324 his great-nephew Laurence, 3rd Lord (Baron) Hasting(e)s, inherited the Earldom, though by a somewhat shaky legality, and it remained with his heirs till 1389, when Hasting(e)s's direct line died out and it reverted to the crown.     LAURENCE (DE HASTINGES), LORD HASTINGES, and de jure Lord Leyburn, son and heir, born and baptized at Allesley, co. Warwick, 20 March 1319/20. On 4 February 1338/9, although still a minor, he had livery of his lands, except of those which the Earl of Derby was holding by the King's commission. On 13 February 1339 the King confirmed and approved that the said Laurence should assume and have the name of EARL OF PEMBROKE, as the representative of the eldest sister of Aymer de Valence, late Earl of Pembroke ut dicitur Palatini: and conceded that Laurence should have the prerogative and honour of Earl Palatine in the lands which he held of the inheritance of the said Aymer. He died at Abergavenny, 30 August 1348, and was buried there in the Priory Church, aged 28. [Complete Peerage VI:351, XIV:372, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
