  • ID: I19854
  • Name: Hildred de CARLIELL , Sir
  • Sex: M
  • ALIA: Hildred de /Karleolo/
  • Birth: ABT 1095 in Hoddon Castle, Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland

  • Note:
1130--Hildred "rendered accounts to the exchequer for farms at Carlisle;" later he granted land to the priory of Wetherhill.

It is suspected that Hildred descended from Maldred, a brother of Duncan I of Scotland (reigned from 1034-1040), who was killed by his half-brother Thorfinn, Earl of Orkney; this Thorfin is suspected by Dorothy Dunnett (author of "King Hereafter") as being the inspiration for the character Macbeth.
