    1413--First mention of Sir William is as a hostage for payment of the ransom of the Countess of Douglas.

    1431--"he's one of the Scots who escorted the 11 year old Margaret daughter of James I of Scotland to her marriage to the 13 year old Louis the Dauphin of France (who became Louis XI much later, long after she had died neglected & childless).

    1443--named as a benefactor of Dumfries, insc[r]ibed on a new church bell he'd paid for.

    In every odd-numbered year between 1449 and 1459 he's named as one of the guarantors of the truce with the English.
