    --------------------

    BARONY OF HARINGTON (IV) 1406

JOHN (DEHARINGTON), LORD HARINGTON, son and heir, aged 22 and more at his father's death. He appears to have been summoned to Parliament from 26 August 1406 to 3 September 1416, but the writs (eleven in all) are directed Roberto de Haryngton'. He had livery of his Lancashire lands in 1406. In 1415 he had Papal licence for a chapel with portable altar, &c., where Mass might be said even during an interdict. He took part in the French wars of Henry V, accompanying- the King on his invasion in August 1415, with a retinue of 34 lances and 94 archers, but was not present at Agincourt, having been allowed to return to England as sick ten days before the battle. In July 1417 he again went in the King's train to France, where he apparently died on service.

He married Elizabeth, daughter of Edward (COURTENAY), 3rd EARL OF DEVON, by Maud, said to be the daughter of Thomas [Camoys], 3rd Lord Camoys. He died 11 February 1417/8. M.I. in Porlock Church. His widow had Porlock and other manors for her dower. In 1423 she had licence to marry whom she would, and married, 2ndly, as 2nd wife, "per verba presenti, non tamen in facie ecclesiae" (bull confirming marriage, 9 October 1427), William, LORD BONVILLE. He died 18 February 1460/1, being executed the day after the Lancastrian victory at St. Albans by order of Margaret, the Queen Consort, in spite of a promise of safety from the King. She died s.p., 28 October 1471, and is commemorated on the tomb in Porlock Church. [Complete Peerage VI:317-8, XIV:368, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
