Name: John FERRE , of Tothill, Steward of Eleanor, Sir 1
Birth: ABT 1245 in Spain
Death: Deceased in Tothill, Louth, Lincolnshire, England
Below is the beginning of a post to SGM, 11 May 2002, which gives the history of Tothill. It is suggested that the Ferre family is "foreign" born (I would think Spain); also that John was father of Eleanore (who was probably named after the Queen).

The earliest refrence to the manor of Tothill is that the manor was taken from Richard De Seez in 1265 and given to Eleanor of Castile. In Nov. of 1274 Eleanor gave the manor up to King Edward I, who granted it to John Ferre, Steward of her household. ( J.C. Parsons, Eleanor of Castile; London 1994, p. 180).
The manor is then mentioned in a market grant. On 15 Aug. 1299 K. Edw. I granted Otho Ferre a Mon market to be held at the manor (CChR 1257-1300, p.479 Calender of Close Rolls, 45 Vols, London).
