  • ID: I15538
  • Name: Henry de ESSE , of Esse Reygny 1
  • Sex: M
  • ALIA: Henry de /Ash/, of Esse Reygny
  • Birth: ABT 1153 in Ash Reigny Manor, Chulmleigh, Devon, England
  • Note:
ASH-REIGNY, alias RING'S ASH, in the hundred of North Tawton, and in the deanery of Torrington, lies about four miles from Chulmleigh. Hayes and Riddlecombe are villages in this parish. From: 'Parishes: Abbotsham - Aylesbeare', Magna Britannia: volume 6: Devonshire (1822), pp. 5-27. URL: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=50567&strquery=ash reigny Date accessed: 09 June 2013.

NOTE: I have seen a few references to "Esse Reygny" in IPMs, Calendar Roles, and other ancient documents in British History Online, so the place went by that name in ancient times (when the Ash family was known as Esse). However I believe that the place is known as Ash-Reigny more recently.
