  • ID: I13279
  • Name: Alphonse d'Acre de BRIENNE , Count d'Eu 1
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: ABT 1223 in Brienne-le-Chateau, Aube, Champagne, France

  • Note:
Alfonso, Count of Eu, Great Chamberlain of France 1258; married Mary of Lusignan (d 1252), duaghter and heiress of Raoul d'Issoudun, Count of Eu, and died at Tunis 25 Aug 1270. [Burke's Peerage]

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Alfonso is son of John de Brienne and Berengaria, daughter of Alfonso IX, King of Castile & Leon, according to Burke's Peerage and much of the internet. Of course most of the internet has him born about 1177, with his mother Berengaria born c1198 from a marriage date sourced many times over at 1223. Since John had to leave Acre for Europe to marry Berengaria about 1223, there was no prior daliance as far as I can see. Therefore Alfonso must be born later than 1223. Many people have him father of Guy de Brienne, b. c1202--but the dates don't work. I have found alternative ancestry for Guy.

Father: John (Jean) de BRIENNE , Byzantine Emperor b: ABT 1168 in Brienne-le-Chateau, Champange, France
Mother: Berenguela Princess of Leon And CASTILE b: 1198 in Leon, Spain

Marriage 1 Mary de LUSIGNAN , Countess d'Eu b: ABT 1220 in La Marche, Poitou, France
