    William Lovel, 7th Lord (Baron) Lovel (of Titchmarsh) and on his grandmother's death 4th Lord (Baron) Holand, JP (1441); b. 1397; Constable of Wallingford Castle 1450; m. by 31 Aug 1422, as her 1st husband, Alice (b. 25 Feb 1403/4; m. 2nd 1463 1st and last Baron Sudeley of the 1441 creation, d. 10 Feb 1473/4), daughter of 5th Lord (Baron) Deincourt and sister and ultimate heir of 6th Lord (Baron) Deincourt, thus, according to later doctrine, Baroness Deincourt in her own right, also according to the same doctrine Baroness Grey (of Rotherfield) through her mother, and d. 13 June 1455.     BARONY OF LOVEL (VII)

    WILLIAM (LOVEL), LORD LOVEL and LORD HOLAND, son and heir, was born in 1397. In 1417 he was retained to serve the King with six men-at-arms and archers, also to serve in the fleet in person, with a man-at-arms and four archers. He is probably the William Lovel whose men were serving in France in 1420. On the death of his grandmother, 7 May 1423, he became, according to modern doctrine, LORD HOLAND. On 7 July 1423 the King took his homage and he had livery of his inheritance. He was summoned to Parliament from 24 February 1424/5 to 26 May 1455, by writs directed Willelmo, Lovel, chr. In 1429-30 he served a again, in the French wars, with twenty-nine men-at-arms and eighty archers, returning to England in 1431. On 11 August 1433 he had livery of the lands of.Alice, his wife, and in the same year was a trier of petitions in Parliament and took oath not to keep maintainers. He was justice of the peace in 1441, and was appointed on other commissions from time to time. He is styled William, Lord Lovel, Burnell and Holand in February 1445/6, in consideration of his service to the late and present Kings both overseas and in England, he was exempted from coming to parliaments and councils. In 1447 he took part in the foundation of the gild of St. Christopher at Thame. In June 1450 he was commissioned to assemble troops against Jack Cade's insurrection in Kent, and on 11 August in the same year was appointed constable of Wallingford Castle and steward of the honour.

    He married, before 31 August 1422, Alice, daughter of Sir John DEINCOURT [LORD, DEINCOURT, and sister and coheir of William DEINCOURT [LORD DEINCOURT and LORD GREY, of Rotherfield], who- died s.p., 1422. On the death of her sister Margaret, 16 September 1454, she became, according to modern doctrine suo jure BARONESS DEINCOURT and BARONESS GREY, of Rotherfield. She was nurse, or governess,. to Prince Edward, son of Henry VI, till 1460, when she was afflicted with grave infirmities of body and sight. William, Lord Lovel, died 13 June 1455. His widow, who was 18 in 1422, married, in 1463, Ralph (BOTELER), LORD SUDELEY, and died 10 February 1473/4. [Complete Peerage VIII:221-3, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

    She [Alice Deincourt] married, 1stly, before 3 November 1423 Sir William LOVELL, sometimes called LORD LOVELL, Of Titchmarsh, Northants, and Minster Lovell, Oxon. He died 13 June 1455.
