    ---------------------------------------------

The name "Bunbury" comes from the village of that name in Cheshire which was granted in 1066 by Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester, to a younger brother of the Norman house of St. Pierre who had come to England with William the Conqueror. The Baron de St. Pierre's eldest son, Henry, was thus described as Henry de Bunbury and that has remained the family name ever since. David de Bunbury, 7th in descent from St. Pierre, acquired by marriage the lordship of Stanney during the reign of Edward III and the family moved there soon afterwards.
