He died 25 May 1395. His widow dead by 7 December 1411. [Complete Peerage II:242, XIV:103, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

The following was supplied in a post-em by Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann AT (my response follows it):

Complete Peerage 2 (1912): 242 states that Elizabeth St. Lo, widow of William, Botreaux, 2nd Lord Botreaux, died 4 Sep., at some date between 1409 and 1458. It gives few particulars of her widowhood. The following four records pertain to Lady Elizabeth Botreaux's history as a widow:

Ancient Deed B.19633. Parties: Elizabeth late the wife of William Botreaux, knight; John Norbury, Esq., Parnel his wife and their heirs. Date: 4 Henry V. The manors of St. Winnow, Cornwall and Little Berkhamstead, co. Hertford. Exchange. [Note: Presumably this conveyance should actually be dated 4 Henry IV, not Henry V. John Norbury, Esq., married his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Boteler, by 30 Oct. 1410; cf. Cal. Close Rolls, 1409-1413 (1932), pg. 189].

E 210/405 Release by Robert Thresk, clerk, to Elizabeth, lady of Botreaux, of all his right in the wardship of the manor of Bentham, co. Glouc. and of a moiety of the manor of Crofton co. Wilts. which wardship had been granted to them by the late king Henry, to hold during the minority of the heir of Fulk Fitz Waryn, knight ; with further release of all actions against the said Elizabeth relative thereto : Glouc. Westminster, 22 November, 3 Henry V.

SC 6/1117/6 Penheal (Penheal, &c.--lands formerly of the late Dame Elizabeth Botreaux.--Receipts only. A number of deeds, &c. quoted in brief): CornwallCrakamton: Cornwall.......: CornwallSt. Winnow: CornwallDiptford: DevonStamborough Hundred: DevonMolland Botreaux: DevonCadbury, North: SomersetKilmersdon: SomersetBabington: SomersetRockford: SouthamptonUpton: BerksHardwick: BuckinghamWeedon: BuckinghamDescription of Officer: Wardens. 11 Henry VI.

C 139/63/24 Botreaux, Elizabeth, who was the wife of the late William, kt: Bucks, Berks, Som, Hants, Devon, Corn 12 Henry VI.

We see that Lady Elizabeth Botreaux is called deceased in 11 Henry VI in the 3rd document above. The fourth document dated 12 Henry VI appears to be her inquisition post mortem. As such, I presume Lady Botreaux died sometime in 11 Henry VI. If C.P. has her death date correct, 4 Sep. in 11 Henry VI would fall in 1432. [Ref: Douglas Richardson 24 Aug 2002 message to Gen-Medieval]

Note: As Curt's quotation from Douglas Richardson says, CP II:242 originally stated that her death date was 4 Sep 1409-1458, but it was corrected by CP XIV:103, using the Cal. Close Rolls, 1409-1413, to read "by 7 Dec 1411" as I have it in the text above. Chris Phillips, in a response to Douglas Richardson above, suggests that the Elizabeth who Douglas refers to is the Elizabeth, d. 29 May 1433, widow of the William in the previous generation.

"If this is correct, the above documents (or at least the last 3) would refer to Elizabeth, the widow of the William Botreaux in the previous generation, who died in 1391. CP describes her as "living in retreat at Tarent Abbey, about 1421, d. 29 May 1433. Inq. p. m. 1433-4." This date of death would fall in 11 Henry VI, in agreement with the third document above."
