  • Note:
He [Roger de Swynnerton] married Maud (j). He died on or before 3 March 1337/8. Maud survived him and presented to the church of Swinnerton in March 1357/8. [Complete Peerage XII/1:585-6, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

    (j) In a paper published in the 'Genealogist', vol xxxi, pp. 69, the Rev. Charles Swynnerton sought to show that Maud was the daughter of Sir Thomas Haughton of Haughton, about 9 miles S. of Swinnerton. He cited a number of instances of close association between her brother Thomas and Roger de Swynnerton, which do no go much further than to encourage enquiry; but he also refers to a seal of Maud the widow, on which the arms of Swynnerton are impaled with those of Haughton. This is taken from a 17th Century copy of a book of seals, and the transaction is dated 2 Edward III. This date is clearly impossible, and Mr. Swynnerton rejects it as a copyist's error. If he is right, this evidence seems to be conclusive.
