  • ID: I04892
  • Name: John HOLT , of Yardley & Duddeston 1 2 3
  • Sex: M
  • ALIA: John /Holte/, of Duddeston & Aston
  • Birth: ABT 1345 in Greethurst Manor, Yardley, Solihull, Worcestershire, England
  • Death: 1402 in Duddeston Manor, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England 4
  • Note:
According to the article on Greethurst Manor in Yardley, John's son and heir was Adelmare who died without issue, leaving the estate to John's younger brother Simon's son John. According to the article on Aston Manor in Birmingham, John's son and heir was Aymer (d. c1436), and John had brothers William and Simon (whose son John was the eventual heir). See notes under father Walter for this info. Also note that nothing is known about John in those articles, neither his birth nor death date, nor his wife/wives--just that he was the eldest son of Walter & Margery and the father of Aymer/Adelmare.

According to the article on Spernall, John (if it is the same John) had a son by Eleanor named Walter. Walter was named as Eleanor's heir and he was then a minor in the care of his father John. The fact that her heir was identified as being in the care of his father, is somewhat unusual, and indicates that the father had a previous marriage and already had an heir (or heirs) by that marriage.

Thus I think that John could well have had two wives: he had a son Aymer/Adelmare by the 1st marriage and Walter and Katherine by the 2nd marriage to Eleanor. It appears that Aymer/Adelmare lost Aston Manor to his uncle William, younger brother of Aymer's father John. Apparently Henry IV favored William and granted him Aston Manor (and quite possibly Duddeston as well). Aymer sued for possession, but eventually gave up all of his rights in 1436. I also assume that Walter, son of John & Eleanor, died without issue (or at least male issue: Greethurst was placed in tail-male by Walter & Margery).

NOTE: The convincing reason that this is the correct John Holt is that John's mother was Margery/Margaret Bagot and her brother was Sir William Bagot of Baginton, who was a strong political ally of Guy Spyne. John & Eleanor's daughter Katherine m. Guy Spyne.
