  • Note:
Turton has Mathilde/Maud's parents as Geoffrey & Beatrice, whom Ancestral Roots has as grandparents.

    --------------------

Apparently Turton has it right (and AR changed its mind), as per the following post-em from Nancy Lopez:

The most recent edition of Ancestral Roots has a revised line for 153 which is 153A:23-30. Mathilde de Perche, mother of Marguerite de Turenne and wife of Raymond I, Viscount of Turenne, was the daughter of Beatrix de Montdidier and Geoffrey IV, Count de Perche.

    --------------------

But there are numerous sources on both sides, as per this post to SGM by Richard Borthwick, 4 May 1997, using ES to answer a confused poster who cited several sources supporting AR7:

    >"When in confusion, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout..."
    >I am confused and need help.

    >"The Complete Peerage", Volume XI, Appendix D, Page 112 under illegitimate
    >children of KING HENRY I says that MAUD (whose mother was EDITH) married
    >in 1103 ROTROU, Count of Perche. They had two daughters named PHILIPPE
    >and FELICIE????

    >"Blood Royal" by T. Anna Leese, pages 28-29 calls her MATILDA, but agrees
    >she was the illegitimate daughter of KING HENRY I and EDITH. The author
    >also agrees MATILDA married in 1103 ROUTROU II, Count of Perche. They
    >had a daughter MAUDE DE PERCHE who married RAYMOND I, Viscount of
    >Turrenne.

    >"The Royal Bastards of Medieval England," by Chris Given-Wilson and Alice
    >Curteis, Table 6, page 63 says that MAUD, bastard of KING HENRY I by
    >EDITH ("not of Greystoke") married ROTROU, Count of Perche in 1103.

    >"Ancestral Roots, Seventh Edition," by Frederick L. Weis, Line 153-24A
    >indicates MATILDA, "natural dau." of KING HENRY I married ROUTROU II,
    >Count of Perche. Don't understand "natural dau." as stated here. Line
    >153-25 indicates they had a daughter MATHILDE (or MAUDE) married to
    >Raymond I, Vicount of Turenne.

"natural" in this context means "illegitmate".

    >"Overview Chart of Lineal Ancestors of King Edward III of England and
    >Philippa
    >of Hainault'" http://uts.cc.etexas.edu/-church/edw3chrt.html states that
    >MAUD
    >married to RAIMOND I TURRENNE is not the daughter of ROTROU and the
    >illegitimate daughter of KING HENRY I, but is the daughter of BEATRIX OF
    >MONTDIDIER and GEOFFREY II OF PERCHE.

    >Probably a better question than, "Who married Count ROTROU?" would be, "Who
    >were the parents of MAUD married to RAYMOND I?"

According to ES III/4:689 Maud wife of Raymond was the sister of Rotrou (who
married in 1103 Maud (d.1120) daughter of Henry I and Edith. The parents of
Rotrou and his sister Maud were Geoffrey I (first) count of Perche and his
wife Beatrix de Roucy (dau. of count Hilduin).
