  • ID: I01359
  • Name: Adelaide de VERMANDOIS 1 2
  • Sex: F
  • ALIA: Adelaide de /Troyes/
  • Name: Adelaide Comtessa de CHALONS 3
  • Birth: ABT 945 in Meaux, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France, France
  • Birth: ABT 950 in Vermandois, Aisne, Picardy, France 1 2
  • Death: 8 APR 976 4
  • Death: ABT 975 2
  • Note:
Note: Turton names her Adelaide de Chalons, daughter of Thebault de Chalons. I believe this is a mistake based on the name given by her marriage to her first husband, Lambert d'Auton, Count of Chalons.

The following was contained in a post-em by Curt Hofemann, curt_hofemann AT yahoo.com:

    Jim,

Actually it's even uglier than that. ES indicates that Geoffrey married Adelaide de Vermandois & upon her death, married her widowed mother Adelaide de Burgundy, heiress of Chalons. It also states the same mother & dau also married Lambert, Comte de Chalon-sur-Saone, Vicomte de Dijon.

To see discussions of the absurdity of this go to google - groups - soc.genealogy.medieval & use keyword: grisgonelle

The following archived messages give a good synopsis of the problem:
    Mardi Carter 26 Mar 1998
    Jim Stevens 26 Mar 1998
Kenneth Harper Finton 26 Mar 1998
    Christopher Nash 7 Jun 1998

To date I've not seen a definitive solution.

    Regards,
    Curt

Note: I have read some of the postings. They seem to indicate that Geoffrey m. this Adelaide (although she is sometimes named "Adele de Donzy" and possibly another Adelaide as well, and that this Adelaide may not have married Lambert d'Autun, Count of Chalons?). The part about the mother & daughter marrying the same people is (as it should be) discounted. I am removing her marriage to Lambert d'Autun, making his wife Adelaide of Burgundy.
