    Funeral Services for Ruth Brandt, age 94, of Littlefield will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, October 19,2009 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Littlefield, with Rev. Loren Zell officiating. Buria l will be in Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield, Texas, under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home.
    Ruth went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Wegdewood South ALC in Lubbock, Texas. Ruth Bernece Goertz was born April 12, 1915 in Hillsboro, Kan. to Henry and Helena Goertz. Her paren ts moved the family from Hillsboro to Littlefield, Texas in the summer of 1924 to establish a farm northwest of Littlefield. Her father died in 1927 leaving her mother to care for the six children. Th e Goertz children worked with their mother to maintain the farm.
    Ruth married Ernie (E.J.) Brandt in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Littlefield on December 23, 1933. In 1946 they bought the farm on which they raised their family.
    Ruth was a homemaker who was active in Emmanuel Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Missionary League. She was an avid gardener taking great pride in her flowers an d vegetables. She preserved most of the food the family enjoyed. She was an accomplished seamstress who kept her daughters and herself in beautifully detailed dresses.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie, of 60 years; and her five siblings, Harold Goertz, Esther Hill, Ernest Goertz, Leonard Goertz, and Rosella Zybura.
    She is survived by her children, Betty Peterschmidt of Victoria, Texas, Bill (Bonnie) Brandt of Springdale, Ark., Jane Brandt of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Pam (Bruce) Kennedy of Lubbock, Texas. She is als o survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
    The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth's name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Social Services of the South, or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent online at Hammonsfuner
    Ruth's family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staffs of Wedgewood South Assisted Living Center and Accolade Home Health for the outstanding compassion and loving care giv en to our mother and grandmother in the past years.
