  • Name: Adam Harker 1
  • Sex: M
  • Change Date: 04 APR 2012
  • Death: 02 DEC 1754 in Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania

  • Note: In 1696 Adam Harker was married as a Friend in the northern England county of Yorkshire. In 1698, having signified "his intentions of removing himself wife & child" to Pennsylvania, he received a certificate of removal from the Friends Meeting at Leburne, county of York. The certificate is recorded in the records of the Middletown Monthly Meeting, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania; Roberts book contains a transcription. Precisely when they arrived is not known. But the minutes of that meeting June 1700 record "ye great loss yt Adam harker hath sustained by fire". The minutes two months later record a dispute he had with the builders of his new house. He was made an Overseer of the Middletown Meeting in 1714. He was appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting in 1715, 1727 & 1733. He was given care of the meeting-house in 1733, 1734 & 1735, and of the grave yard in 1744. The minutes of November 1730 record his intent to visit England, and his return by October 1731. In 1750, several years after his wife's death, he moved to Philadelphia. 3 4 5
