  • ID: I091
  • Name: Jacob Levine
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: in Germany (?Prussia)
  • Death: AFT. 1878
  • NATU: 13 MAR 1878 Citizenship granted, Galveston Dist. Court
  • Emigration: Presumed to have arrived in U.S. June 9, 1858 (when son Henry arrived)
  • Note: Unable to discover anything about Jacob Levine; his name is found on the death certificate of Sarah Levine Loewenstein. His first 3 children were born in Europe, and the family came to the U.S. in 1858, living in New York until after birth of their youngest child Max (unable to find them in the 1860 census). They apparently moved to Galveston, TX, between Max's birth in 1862 and their oldest daughter Flora's marriage in Galveston in 1868 (it seems unlikely they would have moved before the Civil War ended in 1865). In the1870 census, Jacob's wife Bertha was living with her children Hannah, Sarah, and Max next door to her daughter Flora and Flora's husband Pierce Levine (presumably unrelated). Jacob Levine was granted citizenship in Galveston in 1878. Jacob cannot be found in the 1880 census; his daughter Hannah was married, Sarah (unmarried) was living with her sister Flora, and Max (about age 18) was living in Bonham, TX, with his older brother Henry's family.
