Marjorie Louise Roddey (Snookie) Shealy, 70, of 420 East Erie Ave. Folly Beach died Saturday evening August 16th 2004 at a local nursing home from complications of congestive heart failure. Marjorie was born February 27, 1933 in Columbia, SC the youngest of three children to Thomas Theo Roddey and Marjorie McClelland Blankenship.
She grew up in the Shandon area of Columbia and attended Columbia schools, Coker College and the University of South Carolina. Marjorie married Robert Belton Shealy, Sr. in 1954 and the union produced two children, Debra Ann Shealy, who died in 1993 and Robert Belton Shealy, Jr. Marjorie was a secretary at Moultrie High School in the 1960's and was a medical secretary for Dr. George G. Durst Sr. for a number of years while residing on Sullivan's Island. She later lived in Meggett, SC where she was a member of the St. Paul's Garden Club and Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Marjorie lived in Orangeburg, SC for 14 years and retired from Orangeburg/Calhoun Technical College in 1993. She has lived at Folly Beach since 1999 where she was a member of the Folly Beach Senior Citizens. She was very active in the Folly Beach Garden Club, helping select the yard of the month on a regular basis. Marjorie, loved to cook, "play" in her garden and being near the beach.
Her brother Thomas Theo Roddey, Jr. as well as her daughter Debra Shealy Pringle predeceased her.
Her son, Robert Belton Shealy, Jr. of Folly Beach with whom she resided, a sister Rebecca Roddey Harper and her husband C. Lem Harper, Sr. of Columbia a grandson, Justin Pringle Shealy of Hollywood, SC., and a granddaughter, Lindsay Francis Pringle of Glen Allen, VA all survive her. Also her former husband, Robert Belton Shealy, Sr. of Meggett, SC and his extended family, her close friend Betty Martin of Folly Beach, good friend and companion, Robert Kitchen of Charleston, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved feline companion Charlie.
It was Marjorie's desire to be cremated. A Memorial Service with the funeral processional leaving from 420 East Erie Ave. Folly Beach at 3PM will be held Wednesday, August 20th at 4PM in Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 4981 Chapel Rd. Meggett, SC. Half of her cremated remains will be buried in Christ St. Paul's Church Cemetery following the services. The remaining portion will be scattered into the ocean near her home.
