Lois Salisbury Haney, 82, of Belmar, N.J., died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at her residence. Born in Hinman Hollow in the town of Hartwick, she was an elementary school teacher. Her first position was in a one-room rural school in The Clove, near Cobleskill. She substituted for 15 years while her children were young. She also taught in East Meadow, Hightstown, Pennsauken, Tinton Falls and Salem, N.J. Mrs. Haney was a master teacher, serving in positions of head teacher, unit leader and student teacher mentor. She was a graduate of Oneonta Normal School and later earned a degree from Glassboro State College.
She was active in children's, youth, women's and music organizations in the churches of which she was a member. She was most recently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belmar, N.J.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Ida Salisbury; and two brothers and a sister, Robert and Clyde Salisbury and Gladys Pidgeon.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, the Rev. Sanford M. Haney, a retired Methodist clergyman; two sons and their wives, David and Margaret Haney of Glassboro, N.J., John and Janene Haney of Fair Haven, N.J.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be private. Interment will be in Old Tenant Cemetery. A memorial service for Mrs. Haney will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Seventh Avenue. and D Street in Belmar, on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at 3:30 p.m.
