EDWARD P. KELLY
Although one of the more recent additions to the legal fraternity of Minneapolis, Edward P. Kelly has devoted nineteen years to the practice of law and he has already won a well established position in professional circles of the city, having demonstrated his ability to handle intricate and involved litigated interests. He was born in Austin, Minnesota, July 20, 1875, a son of Michael and Anna (Brennan) Kelly, both of whom were natives of Ireland. About 1860 they emigrated to the United States, first locating in Virginia, and in 1870 they came to the Northwest, settling in Mower county, in the southeastern part of Minnesota, where the father followed the occupation of farming.
In the acquirement of an education Edward P. Kelly attended the public schools of Austin, Minnesota, and then entered the law department of the State University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, from which he was graduated in 1903. In the same year he was admitted to the bar and located for practice at Austin, remaining there for three years. He then went to Carrington, North Dakota, where he maintained a law office until January, 1920, and then came to Minneapolis, where he has since successfully followed his profession, being located in the Metropolitan Bank building. His legal acumen soon won recognition on the part of the general public and he is building up a large clientele. He possesses an analytical, well trained mind and has never lost the attitude of a student toward his profession. In trial he is ready and resourceful and his logic carries conviction to the minds of court and jury.
On June 6, 1906, Mr. Kelly married Miss Louise A. Minert of Waukon, Iowa. While never neglectful of the duties of citizenship, he has never had political aspirations, nor is he a clubman, preferring to spend his leisure hours in his home. He is a veteran of the Spanish-American war, serving as a non-commissioned officer of the Twelfth Minnesota Infantry, and his professional connections are with the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American Bar Associations. He subordinates all other interests to the demands of his profession and in a calling in which advancement depends upon individual merit and ability he has worked his way steadily upward, while his upright policy has gained for him the respect and confidence of his fellow practitioners and also of the general public.
