  • ID: I22281
  • Name: Isaac Newton LANGSTON
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: ABT 1775 in District of West Augusta of Augusta County, VA [now Fayette County, PA]
  • Death: AFT 14 JUN 1860
  • Note:
    (1) According to some sources, Isaac Newton LANGSTON and his father, Jacob LANGSTON, Sr., were descendants of Absolom LANGSTON. However, the Y-DNA of participant #100837 in the LANGSTON DNA Surname Project, who states that he is a descendant of Isaac Newton LANGSTON and his father, Jacob LANGSTON, Sr., does not match the Y-DNA of several participants in Group 1 of the LANGSTON DNA Surname Project, who state that they are descendants of Absolom LANGSTON. See http://bellsouthpwp.net/B/o/Boyt-Boyett/Langston/LangstonPeds.htm. Accordingly, Isaac Newton LANGSTON is not shown here as a descendant of Absolom LANGSTON.

    (2) According to census records, some of Jacob LANGSTON, Sr.'s older children were born in VA [later WV], and some, if not all, of his subsequent children were born in PA. This difference in birthplaces is attributable not to a move, but instead to a boundary change. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmonong:

Monongalia, Ohio, and Yohogania Counties[, VA, now WV,] were created from the District of West Augusta of Augusta County, VA. The northern portion of Monongalia, the northeastern portion of Ohio, and and all of Yohogania were also known as Westmoreland County, PA. . . . The area that was the northwest corner of Monongalia became Washington County, PA in 1781, and Greene County, PA in 1796. The area that was the northeast corner of Monongalia became Fayette County, PA in 1783.

Listed in Isaac's household are 1 free white male under 5 years of age; 2 free white males between 5 and 10 years of age; 1 free white male between 10 and 15 years of age; 1 free white male between 40 and 50 years of age; 1 free white female between 10 and 15 years of age; and 1 free white female between 40 and 50 years of age.

Assuming that Isaac is the free white male listed in the 1840 census as then being between 40 and 50 years of age, he would have been born between 1790 and 1800, according to the 1840 census.

Assuming that Isaac's wife is the free white female listed in the 1840 census as then being between 40 and 50 years of age, she would have been born between 1790 and 1800, according to the 1840 census.

Assuming that the other persons in Isaac's household in the 1840 census are children of Isaac and/or his wife, those children woul have consisted of 4 sons (1 of which sons would have been born between 1835 and 1840, 2 of which sons would have been born between 1830 and 1835, and 1 of which sons would have been born between 1825 and 1830, according to the 1840 census) and 1 daughter (which daughter would have been born between 1825 and 1830, according to the 1840 census).

    (6) Isaac LANGSTON is listed in a household headed by his son-in-law, Anthony C. LEACH, in the 1850 census of E. C. River, Bibb County, AL.

    (7) Isaac LAMESTON is listed in a household headed by his son-in-law, Jno. C. VEDLE, in the 1860 census of Pinetucky Beat, Perry County, AL. [Note by compiler: The compiler believes that Isaac LAMESTON was really Isaac LANGSTON.]
